Our Home Herbalist program provides a hands-on educational opportunity to learn directly from the plants as Rachel introduces you to them in the gardens and wild areas of Red Road Herbs Retreat & Learning Center. Each program is a series of monthly classes (6 months) that teaches you the fundamentals of herbalism with activities and lessons to complete throughout the month.

The Home Herbalist Program includes all the major topics: common methods of preparation, herbal therapies for specific body systems and age groups, historical perspective of herbal medicine, current research on herbs, growing herbs, wildcrafting (spring, summer and fall), plant identification, aromatherapy, flower essences, herbs for pets, medicinal mushrooms and preventative healthcare. Rachel will introduce you to over 60 herbs and you’ll create your own materia medica reference file.
This program of classes will engage your mind, body and soul in the learning process. It will spark your passion and respect for plants and empower you with confidence in creating your own herbal healthcare remedies. You will feel the connection we all have to Nature and learn about the abundance of health gifts offered by plants.
Month 1 - herb gardening, spring wildcrafting, infusions/decoctions, herbal resources, history of herbal medicine
Month 2 - herbs for stages of life, tinctures, herbs for the respiratory system, herbs for the digestive system
Month 3 - oils/salves, herbs for the nervous system, herbs for the heart, herbal first aid
Month 4 - herbs for women, herbs for men, herbs for pets, summer wildcrafting
Month 5 - aromatherapy, hydrotherapy, flower essences, herbal home spa, herbs for the immune system
Month 6 - drying/storing herbs, medicinal mushrooms, medicinal food, fall wildcrafting,
Registration: $200 - covers materials and supplies - must be paid by April 1, 2024
Class fee: $80 - paid monthly at each class in addition to Registration Fee
